Statement Of Intent
For this project my theme is portraits. I have chosen portraits because there is an endless amount of different styles and ways of taking portraits. Such as album cover style portraits, street/urban style portraits, candid portraits and surreal portraits. In the future I intend to carry out research on different photographers I have not seen before such as Garry Winogrand who focused on publishing his photography to be seen as real and dynamic. His images have drawn me in through his unique technique, Garry's images are very cleverly done, he goes out takes snapshots of random chaotic moments and makes them look good. I intend to complete the double exposure shoot that I planned on the planning sheet through using multiple different camera settings through the f-stop being at f/2 if I'm inside in a studio but if I'm outside ill most likely want the f-stop on f/2.8 or f/4. Another camera setting I would like to explore is and implement into the shoot is shutter speed which I will likely leave on 1/500 to keep the image as sharp as possible. once the shoot is complete I would like the images to be formatted as a gallery. I aspire to take photos somewhat with a reference of his work and style, as his pictures are more natural and that's the kind of technique and style I would like to use in my own work. As his work is all done in black and white I will probably take a mixture of both coloured and black and white in future projects.
From looking at his work I have noticed that urban style portraits are not just about capturing only the subject matter and the backdrop, its also actually about the deeper meaning and thought hidden away behind the emotion and feeling of the subject, and the backdrop. I am looking forward to implementing both coloured and black and white as I have no personal preference for either style.
As the year goes on I hope to become more and more confident with photoshop and applying it to my work, and explore a wider range of types of edits. From a previous shoot I did in school I feel like I have made progression on techniques and understanding of different camera settings. In the future I intend explore the style and edit of double exposure even further than I already have. This is because I really like the thought, creativity and time that goes into the double exposure edit's. In my opinion I really Like how double exposure edit's really pop out the colour of both the images and this can create a sense of joy in the image. know I improved because I feel more confident when changing the shutter speed depending if the subject of the image is moving or not.
